As a volunteer, you’ll inspire and empower students, educators, and communities to take action for koalas and their habitat.     Key details of the volunteer program:

    • Passion for protecting koalas is required
    • No prior experience nor knowledge is necessary
    • Training is provided
    • A Working with children check is required
    • Must be 18 years or older
    • Volunteers can participate in multiple roles

    Virtual Critical Friend

    Volunteer from your own home. Assist teachers through their koala smart journey through emails, telephone calls or video conferencing. Assistance may include navigating the Koala Smart website & resources, brainstorming ideas for school projects, and facilitating connections between teachers and experts.

    Critical Friend Level 1

    Volunteer remotely and visit schools. Assist teachers through their koala smart journey through emails, telephone calls, video conferencing or visiting the school. Assistance may include navigating the Koala Smart website & resources, brainstorming ideas for school projects, facilitating connections between teachers and experts, and providing an extra hand in the classroom while the teacher presents Koala Smart lesson plans.

    Critical Friend Level 2

    Volunteer at the schools. Provide the same assistance to teachers that Critical Friends 1 do yet also being able to present Koala Smart lesson plans on behalf of the teacher (no need to be a koala expert but presenting skills necessary).

    Koala experts willing to deliver webinars, classroom presentations, or workshops when requested. Topics can be on various topics and requests will be based around where presenters reside.

    Environmental professionals or Educators willing to contribute to Koala Smart curriculum content and assist schools with advice on school projects.

    Ambassador (AMB)

    Volunteer role for teachers, retired teachers, koala conservation enthusiast, wildlife organisation, or similar. Volunteers will promote Koala Smart within own networks and wider. Posting on social media or finding other avenues to inspire teachers to sign up to Koala Smart’s program.
